I created “Dress the WASP” to engage younger girls with the idea of PAPER DOLLS… ONLINE! I had not seen anything like it, so I found several different ‘scripts’ for drag and drop…created a 1940’s young woman in stylish underwear and added the uniform pieces. Each was designed to fit her shape or, in the case of the coveralls (zootsuit) and leather flying gear, not. I added a parachute, helmet and goggles, the WASP dress beret and a pair of silver wings.
This was in the early days of the internet, and, to my great surprise and delight, this ‘game’ was evenually linked to many different sites, including NASA! It was a favorite to teach history— of America, of WWII, Aviation and women and their roles in it all.
It was just one more way to share the story of the WASP, to reach as many young people as we could. It put the WASP ceneter stage in the hearts and minds of our young visitors. Hopefully, it created a lasting impression of what women were capible of during some of America’s darkest days. I hope this archived version continues to inspire those who visit our pages.
Now it’s your turn! Dress the WASP and thanks for playing;)
