WASP HISTORY CARDS

‍    The original WASP Trading Cards debuted at EAA AirVenture Oshkosh, Wisconsin in 2003. Before making any cards, I began calling WASP to ask their permission to use their face and information on the cards.  I had one memorable conversation with a classmate of mom’s who lived in Austin. ‘Trading Cards?’  Nancy, I don’t want to be traded!’   I laughed, but she was serious.

‍

‍    I designed the cards in PageMaker and printed 9 cards on a 8 ½ x 11 inch sheet.  Each card was printed front and back in color on heavy mat paper, then hand cut, and individually laminated. It took a few weeks, but it was well worth the effort.

‍

‍    The first series featured two dozen WASP who were expected to attend the airshow, allowing visitors to have many of the cards personally autographed. I sold out of cards on the second of three days during the event, with all proceeds supporting Wings Across America.

‍

‍    Several WASP later requested additional sets of their own cards to share with family, friends, and audiences for veteran’s events and speeches. Knowing the cards were helping them tell their own stories and educate new audiences about the WASP was especially rewarding.

‍

‍    The cards shown represent a selection from the original Wings Across America WASP Trading Card series.  Eventually, they were renamed, WASP COLLECTIBLE HISTORY CARDS.
